Sex on the Brain $10.99 “The vast majority of love and sex occurs in the brain. Your brain decides who is attractive to you, how to get a date, how well you do on the date, what to do with the feelings that develop, how long those feelings last, when to commit, and how well you do as a partner and a parent. Your brain helps you be enthusiastic in the bedroom or drains you of desire and passion. Your brain helps you process and learn from a breakup or makes you vulnerable to depression or obsession.” While plastic surgeons, diet gurus, and the pharmaceutical industry may have convinced you that they hold the secret to a fulfilling sex life, the truth is that you already have the only thing you really need: a brain. As the largest and most sensitive sexual organ in the body, a healthy human brain enhances your sex life and heightens sensation. A troubled brain, however, makes emotional and physical connection with others difficult. So forget the implants, the fad diets, and the pills. Learning about this intriguing and sexy organ is the key to your sexual satisfaction. Based on Dr. Daniel Amen’s latest research in practical neuroscience, Sex on the Brain shares 12 lessons that help you enhance your love and sex lives through understanding and improving brain function. Filled with practical suggestions and information on how sex can save your life, Sex on the Brain reveals: • How sex helps prevent heart disease, improve memory, stave off cancer, and boost your immune system • How the differences between men’s and women’s brains affect our perceptions and interest in sex—and how you can understand these differences to make the most of the opportunities with your partner • Why breakups hurt so much, and what you can do to ease the pain • Surefire techniques to fix common problems—depression, PMS, ADD—that get in the way of good sex • How to make yourself unforgettable to your partner Everyone wants to know how to improve his or her love life, but so few of us understand the integral role that the brain plays in getting us in the mood, keeping us excited about our partner, and helping us achieve greater satisfaction. S/He Brain $41 During the 1960s, Margaret Mead's argument that gender identity is a product of learning in particular cultural contexts was incorporated into the sex/gender system in feminist theory. In this system, sex refers to physiological differences in the body and gender refers to learned sex-specific bodies to be viewed as separate and distinct from gender-neutral minds. In S/He Brain, Nadeau demonstrates that the sex/gender systemis not some arcane bit of academic jargon that has no impact on our daily lives. It is the greatest source of division and conflict in the politics of our sexual lives for a now obvious reason: the brains of men and women are not the same, and the differences have behavioral consequences. Further, he argues that an improved understanding of the relatinship between sex and gender could enlarge the bases for meaningful dialogue between men and women and lead to new standards for sexual equality that is more realistic and humane than the current standard. The individual most responsible for legitimating the modern distinction between sex and gender was the anthropologist Margaret Mead. According to the Mead doctrine, gender identity is almost entirely a product of learning in different cultural contexts, and sex, or biological reality, is not a determinant of this identity. The assumption that gender identity is learned in sexless, or gender-neutral, minds separate and distinct from sex-specific bodies legitimated the sex/gender system that has been foundational to feminist theory since the mid 1970s. In this system, sex refers to physiological differences in the domain of the body and gender to learned behavior in the domain of mind. Since this two-domain distinction obviated the connection between biological reality and gender identity, it allowed gender identity to be viewed as scripted or socially constructed by cultural narratives (stories, myths, legends, and the like) invented by men to control and oppress women. In ^IS/He Brain^R, Nadeau demonstrates that the sex/gender system is not in accord with biological reality for now obvious reasons—the brains of men and women are not the same, and the differences have behavioral consequences. Yet the intent of the book is to serve the cause of full sexual equality and not to escalate the gender war. Nadeau attempts to accomplish this by demonstrating that an improved understanding of the relationship between sex and gender can not only enlarge the bases for meaningful communication between men and women. It could also serve as the basis for a new and improved standard of sexual equality that eliminates the grossly unfair treatment of women sanctioned by the current standard. |

The Male Brain $11.99 From the author of the groundbreaking New York Times bestseller The Female Brain, here is the eagerly awaited follow-up book that demystifies the puzzling male brain.   Dr. Louann Brizendine, the founder of the first clinic in the country to study gender differences in brain, behavior, and hormones, turns her attention to the male brain, showing how, through every phase of life, the "male reality" is fundamentally different from the female one. Exploring the latest breakthroughs in male psychology and neurology with her trademark accessibility and candor, she reveals that the male brain:      *is a lean, mean, problem-solving machine. Faced with a personal problem, a man will use his analytical brain structures, not his emotional ones, to find a solution.       *thrives under competition, instinctively plays rough and is obsessed with rank and hierarchy.       *has an area for sexual pursuit that is 2.5 times larger than the female brain, consuming him with sexual fantasies about female body parts.      *experiences such a massive increase in testosterone at puberty that he perceive others' faces to be more aggressive. The Male Brain finally overturns the stereotypes. Impeccably researched and at the cutting edge of scientific knowledge, this is a book that every man, and especially every woman bedeviled by a man, will need to own. Praise for The Female Brain : "Louann Brizendine has done a great favor for every man who wants to understand the puzzling women in his life. A breezy and enlightening guide to women and a must-read for men." —Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence             From the Hardcover edition. |

Top Matchmaker Reveals 7 Differences between Men and Women
TOP MATCHMAKER REVEALS 7 DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN
As I am writing my e-book on how men really think (to be completed this Fall!), I got to thinking some more about the differences between men and women. It is funny that we intellectually know about our differences, yet in our daily lives, we tend to forget and then wonder why he/she doesn't respond or react in a similar way as we would.
So at the risk of generalizing and trivializing the genders, here is Uli's Top 7 list:
1) Focus
Whether it's conversation or shopping, men need an objective. The fact that women can while away hours at the mall, happily meandering through lots of stores without looking for anything in particular, is utterly baffling to the male gender. "What do you need?" the typical man will ask, if his wife suggests a visit to a shopping center. The answer is: "we don't need a thing!" To a woman, it's a relaxing pastime to look at clothes, purses or jewelry – it makes us happy, even if we don't buy anything…
2) Multi-Tasking
Men tend to focus on one thing at a time. Women can juggle many things at once. Just the other week, Gary shook his head in disbelief, when I sat in my office, listening to an audio program, while simultaneously posting words of wisdom on Facebook and scanning my e-mails. Women readers, I am sure you agree with me that our brains can easily handle such multiple tasks. Just don't ask us to program the DVR...
3) Relaxation
Enter the "man cave"… If your boyfriend or husband does not have a "cave," he secretly wished he had one. Trust me! Men like to retreat into their own world where they want to be left alone. His cave might be the TV room, his office or a reading chair and most men like their "cave time" right after work or on the weekends. Ladies, this is not the time to bring up the "to do list" or, worse, attempt to discuss "the relationship." Just visualize a big "do not disturb sign" and go about your own life. Cave time is a perfect excuse to go out for a pedicure or spend some time on the phone with girlfriends.
4) Challenges
Men want to forget the problems of the day. Women will remember any conflict, often for decades! A man will say: Forget it, it's no big deal. A woman will not rest until the problem is discussed, dissected and analyzed from every possible angle. Many women's brains rival an elephant's and no slight or oversight is ever forgotten! For the sake of harmonious relationships, I take sides with the male species on this issue. Just fugget about it...
5) Affection
When a woman touches a man she may just want to be cuddled. For a man, cuddling means foreplay. Period.
6) Stress Management
Women lower stress through talking and sharing. The sharing and togetherness is part of our femininity. Men lower their stress by being alone (thus, the "man cave!"). A woman's attitude is that if we can't do anything about it, then let's talk about it and suffer together. This "stress management technique" will drive a man crazy. Sharing for the sake of sharing is an alien concept for men! Remember, men want solutions (or, if there aren't any – fugget about it…).
7) Getting Ready
When a man says he is ready to go out, he is ready to go out. When a woman says she is ready to go out, it means that she will be ready, as soon as she has finished her make-up, touched up her hair, found her special earrings – this could take anywhere from 10-45 minutes...
