normal brain function

Do You Need Brain Function Supplements?
Brain function supplements as the name suggest are the supplements containing essential nutrients required for the brain to function normally. In the absence of these indispensable nutrients, brain can behave abnormally resulting in conditions like Autism, Bipolar disorder, memory loss, lack of concentration, anxiety and depression, etc.
Studies have proven that in most of the cases with neurobehavioral disorder, subjects are deficient in much required DHA omega3 fat. Let us understand why DHA is important for brain and how brain function supplements suffice the deficiency of DHA.
You will be surprised to know that more than 30% of human brain is made up of DHA. Even 50% of neuron plasma weight is DHA. This means that if we have low levels of DHA (brain food), our brain will not be healthy, and hence we will be prone to many neurobehavioral disorders.
Another fact that you should know is that DHA is an essential fat. Word essential means that it is required for the proper growth and development of body but body is not capable of producing it internally. This means that we have to take DHA explicitly through the diet to compensate the deficiency.
Cold-water fish like hoki, mackerel, salmon, and tuna, etc. are rich source of DHA fat. However, because of increasing pollution in the ocean waters, fish caught from them are also tainted. Consumption of such polluted fish means eating harmful toxins like mercury, lead, arsenic, etc., which could be dangerous of our health.
Simple and easy option is to have fish oil supplements. Because they contain oil extracted from healthy and oily fish, they are rich in DHA fat. In addition, they undergo various refining methods during their manufacturing process; hence, toxins and harmful chemicals are filtered out from the supplement.
Besides, purity other advantages of having supplements is that they are easy to take and do not require any cooking time or recipes. You just have to swallow the soft gel. In addition, supplements are cost effective as in comparison to eating fish daily.
Now, that you know that brain function supplements are necessary, the next question that pops up is - when should you start taking them. My answer would be – as soon as possible i.e. the sooner the better. Why wait for an unwanted health condition and then react to it. Remember prevention is better than cure.
Besides being beneficial for the brain, these supplements also keep your heart in healthy condition, and reduce risk of heart attacks and strokes. They are also helpful in reducing excess inflammation in the body and hence act as pain reliever in conditions like Arthritis, Psoriasis, etc.

Ions in the Brain: Normal Functions, Seizures, and Strokes $94.99 Ions, their transport across membranes, and their flow through specialized ion channels are central to the understanding of brain function, normal and pathological. The first part of this book deals with the regulation of ions in brain extra- and intracellular fluids. Regulation is effectedby the blood-brain barrier, and by membrane ion pumps and other transport mechanisms of neurons and glial cells. Normally adjusted for optimal neural function, ion levels can change and alter the excitability of neurons and influence synaptic transmission in healthy and diseased brains. After anintroduction to the electrophysiology of epilepsy, and a description of experimental seizure models, the second part discusses the roles of the faulty regulation of ions and of the diseases of ion channels in generating epileptic seizures. The mechanisms of action of various anticonvulsant drugsare also considered. The third part is devoted to the phenomenon of spreading depression and its likely role in human diseases. The final chapters of the book deal with the role of ions in the devastation caused by lack of oxygen and by insufficient blood flow to brain tissue, and the reasons forthe exceptional vulnerability of certain classes of central neurons in hypoxia and stroke. The book will be of interest to neuroscientists, neurobiologists, neurophysiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and to their students and trainees. |

Neuroactive Steroids in Brain Function, Behavior and Neuropsychiatric Disorders $240.48 This book provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the role of neurosteroids and neuroactive steroids, such as pregnenolone and dehydroepiandrosterone, allopregnanolone, progesterone and others in the regulation of brain processes and neuropsychiatric disorders. The book addresses the neurosteroid function in brain development and plasticity, in both the normal and the pathological brain including the aging brain, cognitive functioning, response to stress, anxiety and mood disorders, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's disease. It also suggests possible therapeutic approaches to the use of natural occurring or sinthetic neurosteroids. The contributors are known experts who suggest that neuroactive steroids could have a role in clinical practice. This book offers a comprehensive, state-of-the-art review of these important bioactive molecules that is relevant to a broad readership which includes neuroscientists, psychiatrists, neurologists, endocrinologists, pharmacologists, clinical psychologists, general practitioners, geriatricians, graduate students in neuroscience, and health care providers in the field of mental health and neurology. |
